Seadrill books third Jurong semisub

By Upstream staff

Norway’s Seadrill said today it had ordered a third deep-water semi-submersible drilling rig, worth $531.5 million, from Singapore’s Jurong shipyard.

The semisub is due for delivery in April 2010.

The new rig will be built according to the same Friede & Goldman design as the previous two units, a Seadrill official told UpstreamOnline.

The new rig will be dynamically positioned and capable of operating in water depths up to 10,000 feet in challenging deep-water areas such as the Gulf of Mexico, offshore Brazil and West Africa, Seadrill said.

Seadrill’s previous two orders with Jurong were placed at a price of $395 million and $407 million respectively.
