Ankara plans to turn the taps on at the $300 million, 285 kilometre Turkey-Greece gas pipeline on 12 July, a senior Energy Ministry official said today.
Turkey hopes to pump 125 million cubic metres to Greece this year through this pipeline, the official, who declined to be named, told Reuters.
"If a big difficulty does not arise, the first natural gas export from Turkey to Greece will be sent on 12 July," the official said.
Turkey will pump Azeri gas from the Shah Deniz area to Greece, the official said. Construction of the pipeline is due to be completed in late June.
The Turkey-Greece pipeline, which will be extended to Italy, has an annual capacity of about 12 billion cubic metres.
Turkey's state-owned gas pipeline company Botas and Greece's DEPA are in charge of construction and operation of the pipeline connecting the two Aegean countries.
