Malaysia flags $7bn pipeline

By Upstream staff

Malaysia has agreed to a project to build a trans-peninsular oil pipeline in the country's north, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi told reporters today.

According to the Business Times newspaper, Malaysian petroleum transporter Trans-Peninsula Petroleum will invest $7 billion over eight years to build a crude oil pipeline to help ships bypass the busy Malacca Strait.

It quoted company chairman Rahim Kamil Sulaiman as saying the pipeline would cross three states at the top of peninsular Malaysia, linking Yan in Kedah to Bachok in Kelantan.
