RXT eyes hi-tech tie up

By Upstream staff

Norway's Reservoir Exploration Technology (RXT), a multi-component seismic acquisition player, has sealed a deal with with KMS Technologies for the exclusive use of their electromagnetic (EM) technology for cable-based seafloor applications offshore.

KMS uses a patented transient controlled source EM to offer the potential for better data quality and a wider range of applications, including acquisition in shallow water, presently a problem area for existing controlled source EM technology.

The company's transient controlled source EM technology is currently under development, and RXT expects to be able to offer EM services as early as next year, subject to the success of the development efforts.

"We are very excited about the possibilities this alliance brings in commercialising what we believe will be the next generation of marine EM technology," KMS president Kurt Strack said in a releasse.

RXT boss Michael Scott added: "We see significant synergies between KMS' transient controlled source EM cable-based technology and our own ocean bottom multi-component acquisition technology.

"This synergy allows the potential to acquire transient controlled source EM with our seismic crews, eliminating the need of a dedicated EM crew. The result will be improved quality EM data in addition to reducing overall acquisition cost for our oil company clients."
