Rain delays Flax plans

By Upstream staff

Rainfall in South Australia's Cooper basin desert has hampered access and well site construction work at Innamincka Petroleum's Flax oilfield.

Refurbishments on Ensign's drilling Rig 30 are essentially complete and rigging up operations for the move to the Flax oilfield site are on track for early June, said Innamincka.

The field has been independently assessed to contain mean recoverable reserves of more than 4 million barrels of oil, and the initial production target for Flax is 1000 barrels of oil per day by the middle of next year.

To date, testing of the Flax-1 discovery has produced over 45,000 barrels of 52-degree API oil and provided engineering data for the design of an enhanced oil recovery project.

Innamincka said the 2007 oil transportation and sales agreement with the Santos-led Cooper basin producers has been finalised.
