Chaza potential for Gran Tierra

By Upstream staff

Canada’s Gran Tierra Energy said today it had started a drill stem test programme on its recently drilled Costayaco-1 exploration well at the Chaza Block in Colombia’s Putumayo basin after oil was discovered in four different reservoir packages.

The well has been cased and about 47 metres of reservoir will be perforated during the drill stem test programme, which is expected to take six weeks to complete.

"This is our second exploration well in the Putumayo Basin to encounter hydrocarbons this year and, like Juanambu-1, is located near infrastructure operated by Gran Tierra Energy, which should enable rapid initiation of production if we are able to successfully complete testing at commercial rates," chief executive Dana Coffield said.

Gran Tierra is operator of the Chaza Block with a 50% working interest. Solana Resources holds the remaining 50% interest.
