AED pumps up Puffin potential

By Upstream staff

AED Oil said today that an independent examination of the south-west region of the Puffin field at production licenece AC/L6 in Australia's Timor Sea had estimated potential recoverable oil of 40.3 million barrels.

The assessment from Gaffney, Cline & Associates concluded that there was a single extensive oil pool in the UK1a reservoir, which encompasses the Puffin-2 and Puffin-9 discovery well areas.

Puffin-2 had previously discovered and tested oil at a rate of 4600 barrels per day, while Puffin-9 tested oil on a wireline test, AED said.

In order to develop plans for the most effective extraction of the SW oil resource, AEDC has commenced further work including drilling and testing of an appraisal/production well on the Puffin-2 structure beginning in 2008.

The company will also carry out additional seismic processing and interpretation, beginning next month, and will expand development planning for long lead items based on the number and locations of wells and facilities.

AED said it had also begun conceptual development for possible joint development with the Puffin NE area or a stand-alone SW development.
