United Arab Emirates-based Lamprell has been awarded a $168 million contract by an unnamed third party for the construction and delivery of a newbuild jack-up drilling rig.
The LeTourneau design jack-up unit will include accommodation for a minimum of 110 personnel and will be capable of drilling in water depths of up to 350 feet, Lamprell said.
The conditional contract is a lump sum turnkey contract that covers all aspects of the project execution.
It is expected that the rig will be delivered in early 2009.
Lamprell has also agreed options with the customer for a further four units to be exercised over an 18-month period from December 2007.
