ONGC to double Assam output

By Upstream staff

India's Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) plans to boost oil prodcution from its Assam oilfields to 60,247 barrels per day by the end of the next fiscal year, Indian media reported.

ONGC has set a crude oil production target of 30,324 barrels a day in the current fiscal year, ONGC Assam executive director JG Chaturvedi was quoted by the Indian Express newspaper as saying.

The ageing Assam fields have seen a steady decline from peak production in 1991, due to delays in modernization and a need to revamp the existing fields.

"We need to induct new technology, which we are now doing by bringing in internationally famed service providers like Halliburton, Schlumberger, Petrobras, Norsk Hydro and Baker Hughes," Chaturvedi told the newspaper.
