Burren pushes up production

By Upstream staff

UK-based Burren Energy announced today it had produced an average of 38,000 barrels of oil per day in the first half of 2007, a 14% increase compared to the previous year.

Burren said the bulk of the production came from operations in Congo-Brazzaville, where gross production stood at 53,300 bpd, a slight decrease with the average of 56,000 bpd for full-year 2006.

In Turkmenistan, Burren pumped a gross of 21,800 bpd, up from 19,940 bpd for the whole of 2006.

“Higher oil production, focus on costs, a rising oil price and an un-hedged position has led to a successful first half of the year,” chief executive Atul Gupta said.

“The second half of the year will focus on the continued implementation of our plan to increase recovery factors on our core fields through water injection and development drilling, as well as the drilling of exploration wells in Egypt, Congo and India.”
