Cooper spuds Indonesia prospect

By Upstream staff

Cooper Energy has spudded the Kurnia-1 exploration well in the onshore South Madura production sharing contract, Indonesia.

Kurnia-1 is Cooper's first international well and the company said today it was "looking forward to successfully drilling the well".

The Parker 253 rig started drilling the well on 15 July 2007.

The South Madura PSC lies on the southern side of Madura Island offshore Java.

It is located immediately to the north of the Santos-operated Sampang block, containing the Oyong, Anggur and Jeruk fields, and to the south of the Bukit Tua and Jenggolo fields.

The primary target in the block is the Kujung limestones, with a secondary target in the shallower Ngrayong sandstones.

The Kurnia well is expected to take 60 days to drill.
