Suriname partners spud first well

By Upstream staff

The joint venture partners at the Uitkijk onshore permit in Suriname have started drilling the first well in a ten-well programme.

Suriname-based operator Paradise Oil and UK-listed partner Tullow Oil said the intent of the exploration drilling programme is to further increase the onshore oil reserves.

Drilling is expected to be concluded in the fourth quarter of 2007, after which the partners will evaluate the results.

Paradise has a 60% interest in the programme, with Tullow holding the remaining 40%.
