Tullow hails 'significant' Ghana find

By Upstream staff

Tullow Oil said today it has made a significant oil discovery at its Hyedua-1 well at the deep-water Tano licence off Ghana.

Tullow said the well hit a gross reservoir interval of 202 metres, containing 108 metres of high-quality reservoir sandstones and a net hydrocarbon-bearing pay of 41 metres.

Wireline loggings indicated the reservoir sands are linked to the Mahogany-1 discovery, about 5.3 kilometres north-east of Hyedua-1.

The well will now be sidetracked, before being cased and suspended as a potential development well.

Tullow said planning was already under way to appraise the accumulation and had identified suitable vessels to carry out a 910 square kilometre high-resolution 3D seismic survey.

Tullow operates the Tano block with a 49.95% interest, alongside Kosmos Energy (18%), Anadarko Petroleum (18%), Sabre Oil & Gas (4.05%) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (10% carried interest).
