A contract worker with Mexican state-run company Pemex died last week in the Gulf of Mexico after a fire in the engine room of the transport vessel Seba’an, writes Tom Darin Liskey.
The vessel was abandoned and then sank.
The Mexican authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, Pemex said.
The Seba’an was transporting contracted workers to platforms in the Bay of Campeche.
The victim was identified as Gualberto Marquez, an employee of Cotemar, who was from Tabasco State.
Pemex said five other ships helped to rescue and shuttle the remaining 175 workers and crew members.
