Algeria partners ready to spud

By Upstream staff

UK-listed Gulf Keystone said today its joint venture partner at the HB permit in Algeria expects to start drilling during this month on the first well of a six-well programme at the Hassi Ba Hamou gas field.

Gulf Keystone said the purpose of the first well will be to evaluate the extent of the field and continuity of the gas accumulation at the field.

The company added that the 3D seismic programme which is being shot over the Hassi Ba Hamou gas field is now 96% complete and will be completed by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, early indications from the recently completed 2D seismic interpretation carried out over the HB permit are that a number of promising leads have been identified, three of which the partners have agreed to prioritise as drill targets.

Licensees of the HBH Permit are operator BG Group (36.75%), Gulf Keystone (38.25%) and Sonatrach (25%).

Gulf Keystone farmed out 36.75% of the HBH Permit to BG Group in September 2006.
