Solana hopeful in Colombia

Alberta-based Solana Resources said that it has successfully drilled a potential oil discovery at the Primavera-1 well in the Guachiria Block in Colombia’s Llanos basin.
Solana is mobilising a service rig to test the hydrocarbon reservoirs encountered, with testing operations set to begin in mid-April and completed by the end of the month.
The outfit started drilling the well on 20 February and reached a total depth of 7405 feet on 1 March.
The Pioneer-52 drilling rig was released on 8 March and is currently moving 12 kilometres to Solana’s Palmitas-2 location on the Guachiria Sur Block, where drilling will start in mid-March and finish by the end of the month.
Solana is the operator and holds a 100% working interest in the Guachiria and Guachiria Sur blocks, while Lewis Energy Colombia holds a 30% beneficial interest in both blocks.
“Initial log interpretations, tests and sidewall cores indicate potential oil play in the Carbonera C-7 formation, where 40 degrees API oil was encountered, and in the Carbonera C-5 formation, where oil shows were observed,” Solana said in a statement.
