DNV and Petrobras seals deal

By Upstream staff

Norwegian classification society Det Norse Veritas (DNV) and Petrobras have signed a Certified Verification Agent (CVA) contract for the first floating production, storage and floading vessel in the US Gulf of Mexico to be installed on the Chinook and Cascade fields in early 2010.

The FPSO will have a storage capacity of about 600,000 barrels of oil, a processing capacity of 80,000 Bpd and gas export facilities of 16 MMscfd.

It will be installed in a water depth of 2600 metres (8530 ft), probably the deepest waters in which an FPSO has ever been installed.

BW Offshore, has signed the contract with Petrobras for the conversion, installation and operation under DNV Class.

Production is set to begin in the first quarter of 2010 reported OilOnline.

DNV will perform CVA work during the design, fabrication, and installation of the FPSO.

DNV's Offshore Service Centre in Houston, USA, will be responsible for the contract and the complete execution of this work.

"We are proud of the confidence Petrobras has in DNV to act as CVA and class society for the first FPSO in the US Gulf of Mexico," says Antony D'Souza, executive of the Offshore Service Centre in Houston.

"DNV units in Singapore and China will also help to carry out the CVA role during the fabrication phase," he said.
