Latest jobsAnglo-Dutch supermajor Shell brought the first gas ashore from the new Caravel field, located 115 kilometres off the Norfolk coast in the southern North Sea.
The field, discovered in 2002, is being developed through two production wells which will pump gas to the Bacton terminal in east England via existing Shell-operated infrastructure.
Caravel is in blocks 49/20b and 49/20a.
Shell operates the field with a 71% stake in the project. ExxonMobil owns
the remaining 29%.
Shell Europe exploration chief John Gallagher
said: "This is our second new field this year in the UK North Sea –
following on from Starling in January – and it highlights our continued
commitment to developing North Sea opportunities.”
Plateau gas production is estimated to be approximately 100 million cubic feet of gas per day and associated condensates (light oil) of 3000 barrels of oil per day into the UK.
