Latest jobsThe international oil and gas industry will need to satisfy the ever-increasing demand for hydrocarbons by having the right people in the right jobs, according to Abe Palaz, director of educational, research and development partnership for Halliburton.
Palaz, speaking at a topical lunch on sustainable strategies for staffing in the energy industry, pointed to the numerous challenges in achieving this goal due to the rapid growth of the industry in developing nations and a less-than-positive image of the industry in some parts of the world.
He said the demand for talent in the industry is at an all-time high, while unemployment among engineers and scientists in the US is at an all time low.
“We need to adopt retention programmes,” he said.
Palaz said the technology used day-to-day in the business is now much more sophisticated than in the past.
“As an industry we need to work much closer with the universities,” he added. “In the west the problem comes down to the quantity of new recruits while in the east it is down to the quality.”
