Select Sands lands Liberty supply contract

Canadian-listed proppant supplier secures long-term contract with US services company

Canadian-listed Select Sands has already begun shipping volumes of sand after signing a long-term contract with Liberty Oilfield Services to supply the hydraulic fracturing company with proppant.

Under the terms of the agreement, Select Sands will provide Liberty with 40/70- and 100-mesh sand from its 520-acre mine in the US state of Arkansas.

The company did not release the terms of the agreement but said deliveries under the contract began last month.

Volumes delivered to Liberty are expected to increase over the next two years to more than 1 million tonnes by 2019.

Upstream understands that Liberty is making a push to expand its footprint in the Permian basin, which is closer to Select Sands’ Arkansas mine location than traditional sand-producing areas in the Upper Midwest.

Liberty expanded into the Permian last year with the acquisition of the US assets of Canada's Sanjel, which has since filed for bankruptcy.

Denver-based Liberty primarily operated in the Rockies and Bakken region of the US prior to the Sanjel acquisition.
