Turaco bounty for Interoil

Explorer makes find with initial well in drilling effort onshore Colombia

Interoil has made an oil discovery with the first well of a drilling campaign on its onshore licences in Colombia.

The Turaco-1 probe tested oil in the upper section of the C7 formation after being drilled to a depth of around 5900 feet on the Altair permit, although the lower section produced only water, the Oslo-listed explorer said in a statement.

“Tests will continue with slickline, to determine the size of the oil accumulation to evaluate commerciality and further development,” Interoil stated.

The rig is now set to be mobilised for the next well in the campaign, Vikingo-1, to be drilled on the LLA-47 licence where further probes will be drilled at the Frison and Jaca prospects.

Interoil last year enlisted local player SLS Energy as a partner to fund the lion’s share of the four-well drilling effort in return for revenue from future well production flows.
