Fire extinguished at Samsung Heavy

No casualties after blaze reported at South Korean builder's Geoje facility

A fire broke out on Wednesday at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje Island in South Korea.

The blaze was extinguished and there were no injuries, according to local media.

The fire, which started in air conditioning equipment in the shipyard at 10:07 am, was put out some 30 minutes later, reported Yonhap.

"We are investigating the exact cause of the fire," an official said.

The blaze occurred only a few weeks after two cranes collided and one toppled at the yard, killing six workers and injuring 25 others.

Samsung last week restarted partial operations at the yard after having been hit with an immediate stop-work order by the Tongyeong Branch Office of the Busan Regional Employment and Labour Office following the fatal crane collapse.
