Statoil takes Prosafe unit

Oslo-listed flotel player Prosafe has confirmed Statoil as the client for the charter of a semi-submersible accommodation unit to be used as a tender support vessel at the Oseberg East field off Norway.

Statoil is taking the Safe Scandinavia, which will be temporarily converted to a TSV for the work, for an initial three-year period under the firm $443 million contract due to start in June 2015.

The lucrative charter also carries four additional one-year options worth a combined $479 million, which would bring total revenue from the deal to more than $900 million for Prosafe.

Prosafe, which intends to start conversion of the unit in the first quarter of next year, will provide mud services for the Oseberg East platform as well as being responsible for marine operations of the TSV that will also be used for accommodation purposes.
