Libya’s giant El Sharara oilfield upped production this week but remains a long way off full output.
The field reached production of 90,000 barrels per day late on Wednesday, Reuters cited National Oil Corporation spokesperson Mohamed el Harari as saying.
Production was expected to rise further on Thursday, the spokesperson at the state-owned oil company told the news wire.
With El Sharara back flowing oil, production in the country is now up to 350,000 bpd, Reuters said.
The El Sharara field has largely been out of action for long periods recently due to protests. It used to have full capacity of 340,000 bpd but the frequent shut-ins and restarts have meant that more than 20 pumps in the wells must be replaced.
