MUA puts a hold on action

Mermaid Marine: No strike action

The Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) has decided to withdraw its notice of an impending strike against Australian services provider Mermaid Marine Australia (MMA).

MMA said the union withdrew a notice of intention to take protected industrial action at the Mermaid Dampier supply base.

The parties are currently negotiating a new enterprise agreement for up to 70 of the employees at the supply base.

Strike action was supposed to start on 1 August and continue for 10 days.

MMA is currently in discussions with the MUA in regards to negotiating market competitive wages and conditions for the employees.

The MUA is also looking for long-term employment security, while MMA is looking for flexibility as it meets the needs of its clients.
