Heerema-AF to scrap Murchison

Halted: production at Murchison

A consortium of Heerema Marine Contractors of the Netherlands and Norway’s AF Gruppen has secured a major award for decommissioning of the Murchison platform in the UK North Sea.

The pair have been awarded a letter of intent by Canadian operator CNR International for an engineering, preparation, removal and disposal contract for the 37,000-tonne facility, comprising a jacket and topsides, that ceased production at the oilfield earlier this year after being installed in 1980.

Engineering work under the contract, for which a value was not disclosed, is due to start later this year once the deal is finalised.

Offshore work is scheduled to begin in early 2016 with the decommissioning operation set to be wrapped up in 2020.
