Idemitsu hits gas off Vietnam

Vietnam discovery: Idemitsu strikes

Japanese player Idemitsu Oil & Gas has made a gas discovery off Vietnam at the fourth well on one block.

Joint venture partner Inpex announced the gas and condensate discovery in blocks 05-1B and 05-1c off the south of the country.

Drillstem tests were carried out in May and August where accumulations of gas and condensate were discovered.

A detailed reservoir evaluation will be carried out alongside further evaluation of other potential prospects on the block.

Joint venture partners entered into a production sharing contract with Vietnam Oil & Gas for the blocks, and were awarded an investment licence by the government.

Idemitsu is the operator of the blocks with a 35% interest, while Inpex holds a 30% interest through its subsidiary Teikoku Oil and JX Nippon Oil & Gas holds a 35% interest.
