Songa Saturn off to Ghana

By Upstream staff

Norway's Songa Offshore has confirmed the Songa Saturn drillship will be used to drill two key appraisal wells on the Mahogany-Hyedua oil discoveries off Ghana for Texas-based Kosmos Energy and Tullow oil of the UK.

Noble Energy, which has been using the vessel off Equatorial Guinea, exercised an option to use the Songa Saturn for two wells but then sublet the two-well option to the partners off Ghana. The dayrate will be about $339,000.

The option runs for two wells, with work expected to begin in mid-January 2008.

Songa said that after completion of the wells the Songa Saturn will move to Libya, with a stop-over in Malta for the installation of riser tensioners.
