Close call: file footage of a previous oil workers' strike in Brazil
Petrobras strike averted
Brazilian oil workers' unions voted on Wednesday to accept a wage increase offered by state-run outfit Petrobras, averting a potential strike.
The United Oil Workers' Federation, a union representing workers in Brazil's oil industry, said it had encouraged its members to accept a 10% pay increase for active employees offered by Petrobras.
Retired workers will receive a 6.08%increase, according to Reuters.
As a result of the agreement, the union said it would cease and desist from its threat to stage a protest.
