Piranema FPSO heads to the office

By Upstream staff

Norway's Sevan Marine said today that the floating production, storage and offloading vessel SSP Piranema has finally begun its journey to Brazil from the Keppel Verolme yard in The Netherlands after cost overruns and delays.

The unit has been contracted by Brazil's Petrobras for 11 years, with extension options for a further 11 years, for work on the Piranema field off Brazil.

The Piranema FPSO was built using an innovative cylindrical design but was beset by cost overuns and delays.

Sevan earlier said that the unit was $45 million over budget and four to five months behind schedule.
