Transmeridian turns on Kazakh taps

By Upstream staff

Houston-based Transmeridian Exploration has seen first oil flow from its seventh well, SA-3, in Khazakstan's South Alibek field.

This recently completed well flowed at an initial rate of 1300 barrels per day. This is expected to stabilise at between 800 and 1000 bpd.

Transmeridian said SA-15, the eighth of 21 identified proven well locations within the field, has been spudded. The well has a target depth of 12,600 feet.

Field production averaged about 1000 bpd during August and September, due to the targeted wells being shut-in for workovers.

The company expects production to increase as the workover programme continues and with the completion of the SA-3.
