West Qurna plans on table

By Upstream staff

Iraq has invited bids for a contract to sink 20 new wells at the West Qurna oilfield as it moves to boost output from one of the country's biggest crude reservoirs.

State-run South Oil has asked companies to bid for the West Qurna contract by 20 November, Bloomberg reported.

Russia's Lukoil is seeking to regain rights to the West Qurna field which were revoled by Saddam Hussein's regime shortly before the US-led invasion of the country in 2003.
