Dreaming spires: the minarets of Istanbul's Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia keep watch over the Bosphorus
Duo lay Turkish pipe plans
Italian producer Eni and Turkish outfit Calik are poised to look into building a 55-kilometre oil pipeline connecting the Turkish Port of Samsun, on the Black Sea, with Ceyhan, on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, Eni said today.
Eni said the link would provide an alternative to shipping oil through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles.
The dup are ready to carry out engineering and design studies on both the selected route and the transportation system, which, in addition to the pipeline, includes a new loading terminal in Samsun and oil storage facilities to be built in Ceyhan.
If the pipe goes ahead, it should be capable of moving 1 million barrels of oil per day.
Eni added that Ankara supports the plan.
