EMP starts drilling on Kangean

By Upstream staff

Indonesia's Energi Mega Persada (EMP) has started drilling operations on its Kangean gas development off East Java, Indonesia, using the Seadrill jack-up Sakhalinskaya.

The jack-up, which is working under a six month contract at a dayrate of $105,000, is believed to be carrying out drilling operations at Sepanjang Island and West Kangean.

Current output at the PSC is 105 million cubic feet per day of gas and EMP's target this year is between 150 MMcfd and 200 MMcfd.

Once the contract ends, the jack-up Sakhalinskaya will move on to work for Shell on the Sakhalin 2 project.
