Chinese outfit Zhongyuan Petroleum Exploration Bureau (ZPEB) has spudded the first exploration well in Ethiopa's Gambella basin for Malaysian explorer Petronas.
ZPEB project manager Li Jianjun told China's official news agency Xinhua that drilling, which kicked off yesterday, will take about three months.
The Gambella concession covers 19,600 square kilometres and is an extension of southern Sudan's Melut basin.
Petronas has set aside $16 million for the Gambella well.
