Gail move for Ethiopia blocks

By Upstream staff

State-run Indian company Gail has been shortlisted to bid for exploration and development of two gas blocks in Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian government shortlisted Gail to bid for the Calub and Hilala gas fields in the onshore Ogaden basin.

A submission deadline of 10 June has been set.

The two fields are estimated to contain 4 trillion cubic feet of gas, which could increase after further development, Gail said.

Gail had submitted an expression of interest for the two blocks together with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation.

Gail shares were down 0.9% at 303.25 rupees in a weak Mumbai market.
