Hess resets Thai start-up

By Russell Searancke

US independent Hess (formerly Amerada Hess) is slightly behind schedule on the onshore Phu Horm gas development in north-east Thailand.

First gas was scheduled for November 2006 under the terms of a gas sales agreement with Thailand’s PTT.

But John Hess, the boss of Hess, said production from Phu Horm was expected to commence in the first quarter of 2007.

“Our Phu Horm gas development onshore Thailand is on track to go from project sanction to first production in about 14 months,” said Hess.

“Gas plant construction is progressing, and the 63-kilometre gas pipeline to the Nam Phong power plant is being laid.”

Australia’s McConnell Dowell is building the gas pipeline.

The GSA provides for the supply of in excess of 500 billion cubic feet of gas over a 15-year period.

The initial delivery rate is about 80 million cubic feet per day, increasing to an expected rate of more than 100 MMcfd.

Project partners are Hess (35%), PTTEP (20%), Apico (35%) and ExxonMobil (10%).
