On the job: the Sedco 601
Jeruk-3 pay day for Santos
Australian explorer Santos has flowed oil from the Jeruk-3 appraisal well, in the Sampang production sharing contract off Indonesia.
The well produced 3200 barrels of oil during flow testing over an open hole interval of between 4939 metres to 4978 metres. It also flowed 230 cubic feet of associated gas for every barrel of oil. Flow rates were constrained by surface facility limitations.
Santos said it plans to finish testing before drilling ahead to continue evaluating the reservoir interval.
Work on the well, which spudded on 24 January, has been slowed down by a series of mechanical glitches.
The downhole difficulties came when crew onboard the semi-submersible Sedco 601 tried to run the 9 5/8-inch casing into the Kujung carbonate reservoir.
Attempts to retrieve all the stuck casing were unsuccessful and it was decided to sidetrack around the section that could not be removed.
