Colombian rebels hit key pipeline

By Upstream staff

An attack by left-wing guerrillas has halted pumping at Colombia's Cano Limon-Covenas oil pipeline, the Colombian army said today.

The pipeline transports crude from Occidental Petroleum's Cano Limon fields, in Arauca province, to Covenas port on the Caribbean coast.

Left-wing guerrillas, who have been waging a 40-year insurgency in Colombia, blew up part of the pipeline on Tuesday, an army official told Reuters today.

The pipeline hs been attacked by guerrillas several times in the past.
