Finning rolls out big wheels in Alberta

By Upstream staff

Finning International, the world's largest dealer of Caterpillar equipment, won a C$264 million (US$234.7 million) order from Canadian Natural Resources for mining trucks to develop Alberta's oil sands.

Calgary-based Canadian Natural will use the 23 new trucks, scheduled to be delivered by 2008, at the Horizon Oil Sands Project, Vancouver-based Finning said today. The contract includes an ongoing parts and service agreement, Bloomber reported.

Sales to energy companies saw Finning's Canadian revenue rise 23% in the first quarter of 2006.

Oil sands companies may spend as much as C$94 billion on equipment and labor in the next decade as they seek to triple production from the oil sands, according to the National Energy Board.
