Wheels turn on Memphis biodiesel plant

By Upstream staff

Memphis Biofuels has started construction of a 82,000 barrel per year biodiesel plant in Memphis, Tennessee, after securing funding for the project, the company said.

Memphis's local managers Kenneth Arnold and Brandon Sheley secured backing from C&C Biofuels, an affiliate of New York private equity firm Cohen & Company to form the company.

The company hopes to start production towards the end of this year. The plant is designed to be upgraded to produce more than 200,000 barrels per year.

The Memphis facility is located close to the Mississippi river waterway and is a major trucking and railway hub. The company expected to create about 50 local manufacturing jobs.
