EdF gets green light on Dunkirk LNG

Super!: EdF plans to use warmed seawater from the nearby Gravelines nuclear power station to cool the gas

The port of Dunkirk in northern France gave French power group Electricite de France (EdF) the green light today to build one of Europe’s biggest liquefied natural gas terminals.

The Dunkirk port authority said EdF could invest €700 million ($1.09 billion) in the project, above EdF’s original estimate of €500 million.

The terminal could handle 6 billion cubic metres of gas a year from 2012.

The port said in a statement quoted by Reuters that it is up to EdF to make its final decision on the plant at the start of July.
