Baraka passes half-way mark at Mali

By Upstream staff

Baraka Petroleum has completed more than half of its airborne survey over its five blocks in Mali's Taoudeni basin and is close to completing discussions on their farm-out.

The company said that three planes will start operating in early August in order to complete the survey by the third quarter.

The survey consists of combined magnetics and radiometrics acquisition of 235,400 line kilometres and a gravimetry survey of up to 44,346 kilometres.

Processing of data from the survey is being run concurrently with the survey to allow for an early start on the interpretation of target areas being identified within the 193,200 square kilometre area covered by the blocks 1, 2, 3, 4 & 9.

Baraka chief operating officer Satyavan Reymond said: “The regional airborne survey is expected to upgrade several of the identified structural trends within the Taoudeni Basin.

“The expected results will lead to targeted ground work, the planning of a seismic acquisition programme and the selection of drilling targets.”
