Malaysia LNG to power Shanghai

By Upstream staff

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has secured a long-term contract for its planned liquefied natural gas import terminal in Shanghai with the Petronas-operated Malaysia LNG Tiga project.

CNOOC has a heads of agreement to take 3 million tonnes per annum of LNG from MLNG Tiga for 30 years, starting in 2010 or 2011, which is up to two years later than the earlier announced terminal start-up date of 2009.

However, the deal is still awaiting approval from the Chinese government.
