Devon reels in Jackfish 2 nod

US independent Devon Energy has been given the go-ahead for the Jackfish 2 development in Alberta's oil sands play.

Jackfish 2 is expected to become fully operational by 2012 and will produce about 35,000 barrels of oil per day.

Devon, which is the sole owner of the development, said it expects to recover about 300 million barrels from Jackfish 2.

Work at Jackfish 2 will get under way immediately, Devon said.

Devon is currently ramping up production at its original Jackfish project.

Jackfish, which began operations last year, is expected to reach full production capacity of 35,000 bpd in the first half of next year.
