Victoria plans 10 well spree

By Upstream staff

Victoria Petroleum will spud the first of 10 exploration wells in South Australia and Queensland on 1 September.

The Hunt Rig 3 is being mobilised to the Growler-1 site in PEL 104.

The well, which is located 16 kilometres from the Santos-operated Callabonna field, targets the under-explored area of the permit, which covers the western flank of the productive Patchawarra Trough of the Cooper basin.

The structure is believed to have potential recoverable oil reserves of up to 9 million barrels.

Victoria Petroleum managing director John Kopcheff said: “Exploration success would establish a new oil production province in the western part of PEL 104 and our adjoining PEL 111 permit. There are also a number of follow-up prospects in the vicinity of the Growler prospect.”

Partners in PEL 104 are operator Victoria (40%), Impress Ventures (40%) and Roma Petroleum (20%).
