BP restarts drilling on second relief well

Cap plan: fabrication work on part of the LMRP cap at Port Fourchon

BP has resumed drilling one of the relief wells to intercept the blown out Macondo bore after stopping it to ready the rig's blowout preventer (BOP) to go on top of the crippled Macondo unit.







Allen said that an option to cap the well by stacking a second BOP to shut in the blown out Macondo well is now "off the table" and efforts will focus on collecting the flow from the well.

BP pushed ahead with plans to contain and collect flow from the blown-out Macondo bore via a lower marine riser package (LMRP) cap as the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) closed further sections of the Gulf of Mexico to fishing.
