Russian duo team up in Yamal

Russian gas giant Gazprom and Novatek are joining forces to build a pilot liquefied natural gas plant on the Yamal peninsula.



The plant will source its feedstock from the South Tambeyskoye field, Novatek said in a statement.

The pair signed a co-operation agreement on Friday, covering the pilot plant, as well as the development and subsequent use of related infrastructure on the Yamal peninsula.

Novatek said it is likely that the plan will see them place orders for an ice-class tanker fleet as well.

"In the coming decades the vast resources of the Yamal peninsula will become an essential part of the development of Russia's natural gas industry," Gazprom boss Alexei Miller said.
