Artumas granted Rovuma extension

Sticking around: Artumas and its partners have had a six month extension approved for the exploration period of the Rovuma licence, onshore Mozambique

The Instituto Nacional de Petroleo (INP) of Mozambique has approved a six month extension of Norway’s Artumas Group's current exploration period for the onshore Rovuma licence.

The Rovuma exploration licence covers a 15,000 square kilometre area, onshore northeastern Mozambique.

"This extension will allow the partners to further evaluate the data from the Mecupa-1 well before proceeding with further drilling commitments", said Artumas chief executive Bob McBean.

Mecupa-1 was drilled at the end of last year and Artumas said excellent reservoir sands and indications of hydrocarbons were encountered in the well which provided encouragement for further exploration.

Artumas holds an 11.59% interest in the licence along with operator Anadarko Petroleum (35.7%), Maurel et Prom (27.71%), Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos de Mocambique…
