Petro-Canada said its De Ruyter oilfield, off the Netherlands, had started production.
The company said it would ramp up production this year with 2007 and 2008 production expected to average about 18,500 barrels of oil equivalnet per day, of which about 10,000 barrels will be net to Petro-Canada.
About 90% of the output will be oil with the remainder natural gas.
Petro-Canada operates the field with a 54.07% working interest. Its partner Dutch-based Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) holds the remaining 45.93% stake.
The field, straddling blocks P10a and P11b, is the second operated by the company in the Dutch North Sea, along with the Hanze field.
The company also expects to see production this year from Block L5b-C, onshore in the Netherlands, and from the Buzzard field in the UK North Sea, it said.
Petro-Canada announced achievement of first oil from the De Ruyter development, located in the southern part of the North Sea on the Dutch Continental Shelf.
